Dave Fleischer $76.47 Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. David Dave Fleischer (July 14, 1894 June 25, 1979) was an American animator film director and film producer, best known as a coowner of Fleischer Studios with his older brother Max Fleischer (the father of director Richard Fleischer). He was a native of New York City. Sometime around 19131914, Dave began working as a film cutter for the American branch of Path, the French company that was the worlds largest film production and distribution company, and the largest manufacturer of film equipment, in the first decades of the 20th Century. Dave Fleischer was notable during the brothers early days as the rotoscope model for their first character, Koko the Clown. He went on to become director and later producer of the studios output. Although he is credited as director of every film released by the Fleischer studio from 1921 to 1942, the lead animators actually performed directorial duties, and Fleischer mainly served as producer. Dave and Nick $18.94 You will not read this story of Dave and Nick anywhere else. Ann Treneman, the sketchwriter for The Times, chronicles all the highlights (and even more of the lowlights) of their extraordinary relationship in a love story that not even Mills & Boon could imagine. Two posh boys who found each other, a bromance to remember, full of love, hate, fratricide, war, riots, bad hair and even worse speeches, not to mention that sexy AV referendum. Through her perceptive sketches, Ann Treneman tells the story of how they dated, flirted with others (including the brooding hulkish Gordon), but eventually came together in a sun-kissed wedding in the Downing Street rose garden. She reveals how Nick struggled to be the perfect political wife while starting a new sub-career as a national hate figure, and chronicles Dave’s long and bruising battle with arrogance. She tells the shocking story of their arch rival, the man who killed his brother and got away with it. The nightmare of the grandparents, the mad aunts and uncles, the ambitious kids and the economy that simply would not do as it was told. This is the tale of two men and a screaming baby of a coalition, trying to stay true to each other when surrounded by political mayhem and madness. Laugh? Or cry (with laughter)? How about both? |

Requiem for My Brother $19.95 In 1992, Marian Botsford Fraser ’s brother Dave was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. Eight years later, as he struggled with increasing disability, he discovered that he had melanoma, which quickly metastasized. In this poignant memoir, Botsford Fraser describes her brother’s illness and death, their deepening relationship after years spent apart, her role as his caregiver in the final months of his life, and, finally, the curious mix of sorrow and soaring she felt in the hour of his death. In vivid detail, she recounts how, as adults, they forged an enduring bond when they took a canoe trip along the Coppermine River, battling numbness of mind and muscle and surviving a plunge through the rapids in a rock-filled gorge. Most of all, she remembers Dave — his pain and frustration, his passivity and pride, and his sudden lightness and humor. This book is her tribute to him. |
