First The Betty White SNL And Next Is Global Domination!
A Betty White SNL hosting gig had amassed a huge following, and then it happened. Now, fans of “the elder stateswoman of funny” are demanding more. There is a new Facebook campaign to get Betty White to host the Oscars next year. She’s almost 90, and her career is enjoying a renaissance, and no doubt her appearance in The Proposal helped immensely. The Academy might get a ratings bump if they did lay down the payday cash to get Betty White to host.
Big ratings for Betty White SNL
The Betty White SNL was hilarious. (Did you see the skit where she yelled “Wizard of …” never mind.) She was quick and clever, and Saturday Night Live and funny are two things that are thought to have become mutually exclusive. (Oh, admit it. The show has been sliding.) The ratings demonstrably improved. In her monologue, she thanked Facebook users that had campaigned to get her onto the show, and then ripped Facebook to shreds, calling it “a huge waste of time.” Now a Getting Betty White to Host the Academy Awards is a growing Facebook group.
Betty White has sudden celebrity
Betty White has actually been a career actress in television and in films for decades. In the ’80s she was on Golden Girls, and she has appeared on other television series as well as films since then. Her stellar turn in The Proposal, alongside Ryan Reynolds and Sandra Bullock, was particularly well received and may have been behind her surge in popularity. Over the last few years, she had a recurring role on Boston Legal and was in a number of skits on the Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson.
Facebook a force to be reckoned with
Facebook groups like this are becoming quite popular. It likely had a lot to do with how the Betty White SNL episode came about, and don’t forget Team Conan. One wonders if the Facebook campaign to get Betty White to host the Oscars will be successful. It would probably be great.
